TED Talk

In this TED Talk (from December, 2015), Robert Waldinger speaks about what keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life, based on a famous Harvard study that has been going on for decades.

In short: it’s all about loving family, friends and community, which is in line with Openhouse’s vision for a sustainable LGBT community here in San Francisco.

About achieving happiness and a good, long health, Dr. Waldinger writes, “If you think it’s fame and money, you’re not alone. In this TED talk, I compare these common notions to scientific data on the good life gathered from a 75-year-long study of adult development. I share three important lessons learned from the study as well as some practical wisdom on how to build a fulfilling life.”

Dr. Waldinger received his A.B. from Harvard College and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He is the author of numerous scientific papers as well as two books. He is a practicing psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, he teaches Harvard medical students and psychiatry residents, and he is on the faculty of the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute. He is also a Zen priest.
