Celebrating 10 Years of Breaking Ground
Housing, Services & Community Programs for LGBT Seniors
Welcome to openhouse, a non-profit community-based organization founded ten years ago to provide ground-breaking housing, services and community programs for our City’s large and growing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) senior population. Our organization is dedicated to the ideal that all of us should be able to age with dignity, grace and support in the city we’ve always called home.
Breaking News: Breaking Ground… Literally!
Recently, the City of San Francisco entered into partnership with openhouse to build our first LGBT senior housing facility, one hundred percent of which will be housing defined as affordable according to City standards and available to individuals who are unable to access similar market-rate facilities due to the expense.
The new building will be part of a larger initiative by the developer AF Evans to create a new community of rental apartments at 55 Laguna (the site of the former UC Extension in San Francisco), publicly-accessible parks and gardens, and new retail and community services facilities. Our new building within this community will also provide openhouse with a permanent base of operations for our full range of services.
